When the Going Gets Tough the Tough Innovate
According to Daniel Goleman, stress makes you stupid. This is because when you are stressed the parts of the brain responsible for sophisticated and enlightened thinking shut down. We are currently in the middle of the biggest economic crisis the planet has seen for 80 years, and the people at the top are all running around panicking and losing their heads.
Now, just when we need to think laterally, creatively and dynamically we’ve all lost the plot and it’s all gone pear-shaped. Granted, this isn’t the case for everyone, and for some people the ‘credit crunch’ has hardly touched them. But what do you do if you really can’t see what you need to do to either diversify, think laterally and creatively when you are paralysed with inertia?
But we in the coaching world know really well, what happens when you sit down and do your sums properly. Instead of panic plus fear = zero output, why not try this version – courage plus lateral thinking = opportunity
Napoleon Hill said : “No two minds ever came together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be linked to a third mind.” To find the answer to these perplexing problems you need to work with another mind, who is sufficiently objective to help you think clearly enough to allow the creative juices to start flowing again.
And I know you’re probably wondering – how do you do that? The answer is with a Brainstorming Workshop.
Could this, in fact, be a massive opportunity? We have it within our power to reinvent ourselves, restructure, do some serious thinking, planning and re-programming? Let’s stop waiting for the number crunchers in the money markets to stop having a panic attack and sort themselves out. We might as well, roll our sleeves up and work on our own things, despite everything.
